Grand National Preview: Tricky Trickster
No seven year-old has won the Grand National since 1940, so what makes anyone think that Tricky Trickster, with 11st4lb on his back, is going to win the Grand National 2010?
His career got off to a cracking start, with an amazing victory at Newbury. From that moment on, everyone was talking up Tricky Trickster as the next big thing, and a £300k investment from Paul Nicholls was an indication of how highly thought of he was. He's got stamina in bags, and one day he will become a real challenger.
Today, though, being backed into Grand National favouritism (only to be replaced by a more sage choice in Big Fella Thanks), seems a curiosity. He only beat Denman because Denman fell in the Aon chase, and he's far, far too inexperienced to take on a race like this with older, better horses carrying less weight. Tricky Trickster has tricked one handicapper too many, and his game is up. Not this time, fella. Thanks.
You can, if you really want, get 14/1 against Tricky Trickster. We'd ask for double that.
